Houston, TX, May 5, 2020: Capital IDEA Houston Staff in partnership with TX/RX Labs was able to distribute 100 masks to program participants and their families during the last weekend of April. Program participants, many of whom are essential workers, came to the organization’s Midtown Houston location to receive masks just ahead of the Statewide mandate that all persons over the age of 10 wear masks in public. This mandate was put into effect by Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo, requiring the county’s 4.7 million residents to cover their faces at all times except when eating, exercising or drinking.
In keeping with the organization’s mission to provide support to low-income and unemployed individuals in Houston, the event meant that this was one less obstacle program participants needed to worry about. Participants who were not able to make it to the location to pick up their masks were also taken care of as the program’s Career Navigators additionally made contact-less drop-offs to participants’ homes to ensure they received their supplies.
“We’re so thankful for TX/RX for donating masks to all of the Capital IDEA participants. We just spent an hour- of course, the team did, staff did, a couple of the Career Navigators- Ms. Lilith Harris; she also brought her son, Mrs. Melissa Winfree, Ms. Sharon Guillory, and myself- passing out masks,” said Michelle Paul, Executive Director at Capital IDEA Houston. “We’re so grateful to be able to provide them with that resource here at Capital IDEA Houston. We are very thankful, again, and gracious to TX/RX Labs for the opportunity to provide that essential resource to all of our participants.”
