Capital IDEA Houston hosts first Harris County Back To Work Virtual Career Fair- Thursday, December 17, 2020

Capital IDEA Houston, with funding from Harris County Back-To-Work Initiative, has partnered with local employers and community training partners to assist with placement for those who have completed or will complete training in Harris County Back-To-Work Programs.  

Houston, TX– To assist in placement efforts for participants and graduates of the Harris County Back To Work training programs, Capital IDEA Houston will host a Virtual Career Fair on Thursday, December 17 from 10 AM to 4 PM showcasing Harris County area employers hiring for positions across a range of fields from Phlebotomy, CDL Driving, Welding, Computer Technology, Sourcing & Procurement, Supply Chain Management & Logistics, and Allied Health Care.

The Virtual Career Fair will connect program participants with the opportunity to meet employers, learn about job opportunities, and interview with major Harris County companies and organizations such as Ascend Performance Materials, City Of Houston, Cognizant Digital Solutions, Harris County Human Resources, Harris County Precinct 2, Harris Health System, Houston Independent School District (HISD), Hitachi Vantara, Lucas Group, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA), and WeldForce Group. 

“We want to continue to transform lives in under-served areas of Houston and Harris County, especially those hardest hit by COVID-19 by removing the barriers to training and providing necessary support,” said Michelle Paul, Executive Director. “The ultimate goal is placement; getting people in front of employers and getting them hired.”

Capital IDEA Houston received funding through the Harris County Back-To-Work Initiative to guide residents who may be currently unemployed or underemployed due to COVID-19 the opportunity to retrain, or train for a completely new certification, in a high-demand career while sponsoring the cost of tuition, books, fees, tools, and supplies and providing career navigation and employment support services to eligible residents.

Since the launch of the Harris County Back To Work training programs at A Step Forward Training Solutions, Griffin Welding School, Houston Community College, Industrial Welding Academy, KS Phlebotomy School, MD4U Training Center, and St. Michael’s Learning Academy has seen 136 Harris County students enroll and train for free in short term certifications in Phlebotomy, Welding, NCCER Core Construction, CompTIA A+ Certification, Sourcing & Procurement (SAP TS 410) & Microsoft Excel.
