FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 16, 2020
Houston, TX: In response to the economic devastation caused by COVID-19, Capital IDEA Houston has received funding through the Harris County Back-To-Work Initiative to guide Harris County residents through the educational/training and placement process by December 31, 2020.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to lean on those relationships we have with our community partners to do something to help our community get back to work,” says Michelle Paul, Executive Director at Capital IDEA Houston. “We’re really excited for this collaboration.”
The collaboration, which includes seven Harris County area training schools will provide adults who may be currently unemployed or underemployed due to COVID-19 the opportunity to retrain, or train for a completely new certification, in a high-demand career.
To achieve this goal, Capital IDEA Houston will sponsor the cost of tuition, books, fees, tools, and supplies, while providing career navigation and employment support services to eligible residents. Program offerings include short term certifications in: Phlebotomy, NCCER Welding, NCCER Core Construction, CompTIA A+ Certification, Sourcing & Procurement (SAP TS 410) & Microsoft Excel.
Historically, Capital IDEA Houston has maintained an 80% success rate among participants in short term training opportunities with a 65% placement rate. Eligible candidates enrolled in Capital IDEA Houston’s Harris County Back-To-Work programs will also have the opportunity to apply to the Signature Program for additional training in sponsored career pathways for further certification leading to a degree in high-wage, high-demand careers.
“It’s about removing barriers to success,” says Paul. “We have a very small window of opportunity here so interested residents should apply as soon as possible.”
All training under the Harris County Back-To-Work Initiative must be completed by December 31, 2020 and programs are currently enrolling students into their respective programs.
