One who supports the cause of; defends.
In the ichoose: Career My Way program, our "Champions" are defined as "the parents, guardians, relatives, and members of our community who help keep the youth engaged, involved, and accountable for their growth along their chosen career path."
LaTasha, mother of one of our Cohort 5 participants, had this to say about her and her son's experience:
"The Career My Way program is a unique experience. One of my goals /expectations was for my son to discover different options that are available to him. This is important because school is not for everyone, and college can be very over whelming for a young adult. Just because your child has turned 18 or has graduated high school, doesn’t mean that he or she is ready to face the world of higher education. It was nice to have the opportunity to speak with my son about career ideas, career opportunities, and what adulting is all about.
One of the amazing things that stood out to me was the assessments that each student had to take. The results of the assessments was surprising to my family, and eye opening for my son. These assessments helped him look at a career opportunity that he wouldn’t have explored before the [ichoose: Career My Way] program. After the program comes to an end the students still keep in contact with [their Career Navigator]. I feel that this program should be expanded and even include an internship in the related career of choice!"
