Goreti heard about Capital IDEA Houston through a professor at Coleman College and came to an Information Session. She is currently working as a PRN Patient Care Assistant between St. Luke’s Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital, while studying, to support herself
Goreti started Nursing School in Jan 2019 while working a job with a very rigid schedule. To help herself, she planned on taking a loan so she wouldn’t have to work during the summer.
“Unfortunately life slapped me in the face. I failed that semester because I didn’t have the time to focus on my studies as I should, and now here I have this loan I took out. I was like...what am I going to do?” she recalls.
Never one to give up, Goreti re-enrolled in the Nursing program and learned about Capital IDEA Houston through one of her professors at Coleman College. Although she was nervous about applying, she was relieved to be accepted into the program despite her prior poor grades, and was determined to succeed. Happily, she found much needed relief as she was able to reduce her hours and focus on her studies as she no longer needed to split her time between working a rigid schedule and school.
“Capital IDEA Houston pretty much saved my life. [They] took a huge load off my back, and on top of that gave me a card for food, and other things that are very helpful and needed when your brain can’t think correctly to even put together a meal!” she exclaimed.
Goreti expressed her gratitude for Capital IDEA Houston and all the assistance she’s received to get her to graduation day:
“I'm just very grateful. I thought it was the worst moment when I failed, but then in the second round I came back and found Capital IDEA Houston and it was wonderful. I’m very thankful.
I want to thank every single person who is involved with Capital IDEA Houston, especially the donors; you’re saving our lives, basically. The financial burden that comes with school- school is already enough to think about, then add to that worrying about how you’re going to pay for rent and keep your lights on is another added stress. Thanks to everyone who has assisted me in any way- thank you very much.”
Goreti plans to give herself a short mental break prior to taking the NCLEX Examination, which is the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) exam to test the competency of nursing school graduates, and will apply for a Nursing Residency program with her current employers, St. Luke’s Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital.
We wish Goreti continued success and will continue to support and encourage her along her journey to becoming a Board Certified Nurse!
